Virtual Reality has exponentially advanced as of today. Not only has it taken over the gaming and entertainment industry, but it has seized the marketing world. It is expected by Dan O’Connell of BrandLab360 that it would open a new customary of brand interaction within their campaigns.
“It’s also creating efficiencies in the supply chain. Virtual architecture can be the digital twin of a real-life store where people can browse without the friction of in-store shopping,” he quoted.
The limitation of physical mass in public by pandemic has pushed a longing for interaction with reality in any way possible – even when it comes to shopping. This need was then met by virtual reality:
• SK-II CITY (2021) – A virtual mini-replica of Japan containing not only famous landscapes but their ‘VS’ advertisement campaign with the affiliated products.
• Ally Bank Island (2020) – A whole new interactive Animal Crossing Island inspiring visitors on their service through branded in-game functions.
• Gucci Off the Grid – Wearable fashion items for The Sims 4 players both in real life and in-game.
• NGV Virtual Tour (2020) – Multiple virtual spaces online copying every edge of exhibitions to be visited by anyone from the comfort of their home.
Although this invention is not necessarily new, it has not yet matured in its product life cycle. There are barriers to the adoption:
Expected barriers in VR usage by businesses in different levels (FinancesOnline, 2022)
• The combined balance of accessibility and quality control.
• Technical disadvantages and costs.
And other reasons resulting in unsatisfied users.

As FinancesOnline summarised that retail is to invest in the technology at the value of 7.3 billion USD. This is to support 61% of online shop customers who favour Augmented Reality implementation in their purchasing experience. What do you think?
